LVIV GUIDED TOUR

While not belittling those who offer private Lviv tours, ourselves included, the structure of every private Lviv guided tour, be it a walk through our UNESCO World Heritage old town, our post-Soviet suburbs, or anywhere else, is essentially the same.

Facts, anecdotes, and everything in between will be relayed from guide to traveller in bite-size chunks. Easy to digest, plenty of aftertastes.

What we learned in Rome ultimately gave rise to In Lviv Tours and our private tours here are just like those we offer there, but it was not always this way.

There is a critical difference between touring Lviv and Rome with us now and how our private tours in Rome were conducted back in the day.

I understand that when a tour guide in Rome recites dates and names in rapid succession, it can and does overwhelm. In venues such as the Vatican Museums wherein there are many paintings and major works of art, it's a necessary evil, but such statistics can be pulled from the internet at any time.

Anecdotes then come into their own, as does personal perspective and guide experience to embellish beyond the facts and figures. This has continued in Lviv, and is the foundation stone of everything we do.

We put a stop to the learn by numbers method of tour delivery a long time ago. Even then, times had already changed. Guided tours today flow in all directions and travellers visiting Rome or Lviv in 2025 want to become part of the destination, they want to feel like a local and share their experience with real locals.

Statistics, ergo dates of events, names of leaders and influential people can be found quickly by anyone with a connected device. They are no longer relevant in Rome, nor relevant on a private tour of Lviv, at least those led by In Lviv Tours.

This may seem rather drastic, after all, we run tours that revisit the history of art and architecture in Lviv.

We make it crystal clear from the outset that where dates and names are required to deliver a timeline of the city, such details can be found online or inside the venues visited.

What we do is capture the moment of the experience. We make sure that a tour is engaging, human, inspiring.

In so far as we are concerned, a private tour of Lviv or somewhere in Rome today is all about personalization. We reject verbal delivery of said statistics, it being the epitome of depersonalization. No one in their right mind should have to pay for that.

On guided tours the world over, be they privately guided or group, a distinct lack of emotion prevails when itineraries are followed to the letter and dates, numbers etc. reeled off.

Every guided tour of every type needs some level of individual personalization, or engagement is lost and the experience fatally wounded. When a traveller is in a destination, the last thing they want is to be bombarded with banality.

A Lviv guided tour of any kind is, for all intents and purposes, an experience. Indeed, the word "tour" is being replaced by "activity" and in turn, every activity in a destination visited by tourists is an experience, which validates and gives traction to what we are discussing here.

Terminology aside, what a tour, activity, experience brings to a traveller who has made the decision to spend time with a local guide is the converse of travellers who prefer to go it alone.

As a tour operator with no bias either way, to visit any destination unguided is a waste of time.

There are guidebooks, there are digital guides, all manner of maps with places of interest marked and mentioned, but local interaction is priceless, and from that comes connections to a place and it's people.

Before booking a guided tour in Lviv, private or group, remember to read through Lviv FAQs first.

Almost every other Lviv FAQs page out there has been cobbled together by professional bloggers who link to OTA resellers such as GetYourGuide and Viator (never book with either) to get commission on bookings.

What they write is irrelevant because they don't live here, they just passed through then wrote 2,000 words of shameless fluff.

Read around what each Lviv tour operator offers, meaning tour duration, tour cost, and how the activity is described. If all your boxes are ticked, contact them and get ready to experience real Eastern Europe.
