TOUR OVERVIEW
Someone somewhere said there are over 4,500 lions in Lviv. That may be the case, but we're not looking for just any lions. Those we meet on Lviv Lion Hunt are carved in stone. They protect our most beautiful buildings, be they civic or private property.
Lviv Lion Hunt covers a lot of ground, from the cobbled streets around our Armenian quarter, to private gardens and terraces, concluding in the serenity of Lychakiv cemetery. But what does the lion mean in Lviv?
A lion stood in front of a stone gate and three towers is our coat of arms, and has been since the 14th. century. Lviv is known as the City of Lions. Lion tattoos are very common here.
The crest of the football team in Lviv, FC Karpaty, is a golden lion on green and white stripes. Our logo includes a white lion too, indeed, every page on our website has its own unique lion. They are guardians, of sorts. Can you find all of them?
One of our oldest pubs, The Old Lion, didn't survive the 2020 pandemic, but The White Lion is still going strong. It is here that we take lunch and share a beer or two before setting off. Expect a rather absorbing tour that visits all the hidden alcoves in our old town and almost all our most beautiful streets. We move on foot and by tram to view the jewels of Lviv.
