TOUR OVERVIEW
The impact of war in Ukraine on wildlife and the environment has been catastrophic and unprecedented. Deliberate destruction of Kakhovka dam, oil spills, mining and shelling of nature reserves and agricultural land has devastated Ukrainian fauna. Elk, bears, boar, deer, wolves, foxes, lynx.
It will take generations to recover the damage, especially when one remembers that Ukraine has become the most heavily mined country in the world.
Over 3 million hectares of forested land (30% of all forests in Ukraine) have been destroyed by war. Since February 2022, 150 million tons of CO2 emissions have been released into the atmosphere because of military activity. One can only imagine the impact on and suffering of countless animal species.
Many people have had to flee their homes. Inevitably, pets were left behind. Some of these have found their way to Lviv thanks to charities and conscientious citizens.
Expect to connect with dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and many more animals saved from abandoned places in Ukraine that have become too dangerous to live in.
Animals of War reveals silent suffering and is led by a local animal lover. We include pizza or pastry lunch en route.
