TOUR OVERVIEW

Our Lviv cemetery tour is a truly classic Lviv tour. Lychakiv, like Campo Verano in Rome and Highgate Cemetery in London, is a forboding yet enticing setting that spans over 40 hectares. It's an open-air museum where 350,000 people rest.

The difference is that Lviv, at the crossroads of so many warring nations for so long, has suffered and still suffers immeasurable tragedies, ergo the vast majority of those who rest at Lychakiv were military personnel.

Lychakiv was also last exit for famous Poles and Ukrainians. You will learn about the many different symbols of death and honour the burial traditions of Lviv since 1786.

This tour is different in that we explore the oldest tombs and mausolea, pore over the most obscure inscriptions, and listen to arcane tales that lie behind the dark heart of Lychakiv.

And we go one step further, as your guide at Lychakiv cemetery will be accompanied by Lilith, a regular visitor who has a guarded interest in the afterlife.

She will share her thoughts and explain why Lychakiv is such a life-affirming place to be. We go beyond touring the cemetery per se, as is our wont.

Lviv has been called "City of Bones", Lychakiv the most famous necropolis in Europe - both descriptions are apt. On this tour you will understand why.

While our old town is remarkable and beautiful, where there is beauty there are shadows. Lychakiv is not far away from our most loved landmarks.

Lychakiv with Lilith reveals dark Lviv, led by a local historian expert Lviv tour guide with a Gothic girl. We include mausolea, memorials, and a tonic to drown all sorrows.
