Tour Overview
What is Lviv, Lwów, Львів, Lemberg? Some say the next Prague, Riga, or Kraków, meaning one more destination destruction for European and American revellers. We know better. The proud people of Lviv will not allow such antics in their own backyard. Our great city has been defended many times, it's tradition.
Lviv is a museum city in which Ukrainian culture is king, testament to the genocidal brutality of nazism and ultra-nationalism, decades of cultural repression under communism, and the corruption of present-day Ukraine. In recent years, however, the tide has turned. The old ways of ethnocentrism are on the way out as Ukrainian youth espouses democracy for all, without prejudice of any kind. Lviv will become an ethnically diverse cultural crossroads once again.
Hear remarkable stories about Lviv from the first years of King Danylo of Galicia and Volhynia, some 770 years ago, to the here and now. Listen, as your guides reveal the corpus of Galician culture all along the way. Remnants and ruins of regional conflicts and religious legacies define modern Lviv, as do the dozens of hidden locales tucked away betwixt and between our characteristic cobbled streets.
The complex, contradictory atmospheres of Lviv old town inspire all who are fortunate to wander through it.
Lviv Highlights shows the best of Lviv and is guided by a local expert Lviv tour guide, a veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and a Ukrainian to English translator (if required). Your veteran guide will imbue Lviv Highlights with his or her personal reflections about pre-war life in Lviv, fighting in the war against russian terrorism, and since returning home.
We include two street food stops and warming spirits that catch the light of Lviv!
